... was built in 1750 as a coaching inn. It has long been associaetd with smuggling, and its fame today rests in large part on its being made the setting for a 1936 novel by Daphne du Maurier, which was filmed in 1939 by Alfred Hitchcock. Both the novel and the film are entitled Jamaica Inn.
